The one resource you shouldn’t do without

Dear Students,

As a tutor who Googles and researches and then uses a variety of educational resources, I would like to share with you my favorite free online learning tool: Khan Academy.

Khan Academy is a not-for-profit organization that began with a guy named Salman Khan creating math videos and posting them on Youtube. The videos were so helpful and widely used that Khan Academy now has its own website and teaches everything from math to science to humanities to economics. (Learn more about Khan Academy here.)

Salman Khan

I use this website primarily for math, and it has the best math videos and instructions I have found online. Five key things I love about Khan Academy are…

  1. You set up an account (for free) and it monitors your progress and gives you points…and for those of us who are competitive, earning more points is very motivating. 🙂
  2. You can stop, start, and re-watch the videos as much as you like, and each video has a comment board below it where you can ask questions.
  3. For most videos, there are practice exercises to go with them.
  4. In each topic, the videos are in chronological order so you don’t have to guess at what you should learn next. Each video builds off the one before it.
  5. If you need math help, it doesn’t matter what age you are, Khan Academy covers every level from elementary math to calculus.

Sorry this screenshot is blurry…if you click on it, it will pop up in a larger window.

So, whether you want to keep up your math skills, get ahead for next year, or need help with your summer math class, this is the site to visit! And don’t forget to check out their science, humanities, and economics videos, too!

Happy Studying!
